Distorted Self Image

May 23, 2008

I was looking around on YouTube for a new video to post here on Thrive! TV and this is what I came across . . .

You need to a flashplayer enabled browser to view this YouTube video

What a reminder of how the media has distorted peoples’ self image! When I watched the video, my immediate reaction was shock at how thin the person looked, then disgust at how overly skinny her examples of what she wanted to look like were.

Here at Thrive! we strive to promote living a healthy life, we do not support the use of overly airbrushed models in the media. We are real people overcoming our own personal battles — Martha has quit smoking since the beginning of this year, and I am slimming down to a healthier weight so I can stop taking my blood pressure medicine. We fully support anyone that makes a lifestyle change for the right reason. Striving to look like an airbrushed photo you see in a magazine is not a good reason to lose weight.

Remember, live a healthy life to it’s fullest!
